Yesterday, we had a two-hour drive from Thornybush to Sabi Sands through lots of villages. It was a bumpy, but very interesting drive. We had these three greeting us as we approached Inyati (Cape Buffalo) Lodge.
The lodge and chalets are beautiful
It's situated on the Sand River--quite stunning.
We have lucked out again on our ranger and tracker. Omega and Joel are terrific. On our very first drive in the afternoon, we came upon a mother Leopard who had recently killed an Impala. Warning--don't watch this video is you don't want to see the Leopard dragging the Impala up a tree.
After the Impala was safe from Hyenas and Lions, mom took a snooze.
The mother Leopard was with her very handsome son.
As we were driving we saw lots of animals. I'm only posting this Steenbok. It is the smallest of the African antelopes and always on the move. For some reason, this one was standing still.
Then Omega and Joel found a pride of Lions (5 males, 3 females, and 2 cubs). I have no idea how they found them since our Land Cruiser went through some really thick bush and the lions were hunkered down.
Here's a mom and cub.
What an unbelievable first game drive at Inyati. We are loving this place.
This morning we started out by stopping at a pond and watching these algae-covered ladies.
Up in a tree, Omega spotted this African Hawk Eagle. He said was a juvenile.
By spotting dust in the distance, Joel and Omega found a herd of Cape Buffalo. The whole herd was huge (300). They upset this Wildebeest who was enjoying his pond.
Here you can watch the front end of the herd coming into the pond.
Amidst all of these hooves in the pond, were a couple of these Wattled Plovers. Wow!!
Then another spectacular treat. We were heading out to find some African Wild Dogs and we came upon this mother Leopard moving her baby to another den. Unbelievable!!!
Then back to finding the pack of wild dogs that had settled down a bit because the alpha male and female had recently had 10 pups. There are only 350 of these creatures left in the greater Kruger area. What a shame.
Driving back to the lodge we found a group of Warthogs.
The morning game drives usually last three hours and this one lasted four. 😍😍
