Day 2: More Amazing Creatures

Yesterday afternoon, while hanging around the lodge between game drives, there was lots of action at the small watering hole--four warthogs and many (not sure how many) elephants. They kept drawing me away from working on the blog--wonderful distractions.

This hiding leopard may not look like much, but it took some fancy driving and lots of persistence to get close to this guy. Jerry said we should make a Where's Waldo book of hiding animals.

I love birds and this Hadeda Ibis was a treat!

This next shot was at the very end of my telephoto lens and not the clearest, but I really like the silhouette of these two Wahlberg's Eagles.

We spent a lot of the afternoon sitting with a herd of Cape Buffalo. I had never been so close to these giants before. Quite amazing.

At dusk we had our sundowner drinks while watching the setting sun and feeling so grateful for being in this magical place with friends.

This morning bright and early Lucan took us to a Hyena den. We got to see mom and baby. Yay! Peggy took the baby photo--great photography, Peggy. So cute!

While driving to find Lions on the hunt (which we never found), we came across a rollicking group of Vervet Monkeys. This guy was really showing off.

This Dark Chanting Goshawk was magnificent.

We had our morning coffee by a dam with lots of surprises. This is a week-old baby hippo. I've never seen one this young before.

We know this dam from our trip last year and were hoping to see the resident Crocodile. It took it a while, but it finally showed itself and put on quite a show.

Another fantastic game drive. When we got back to the lodge, I had to wait to get into my suite because I was afraid I was going to scare this Nyala. Quite a few traverse the lodge.
